i think this can be interesting as how the fedex can certainly facilitate certain shipping; but at the same time; the system would haveto consider BOTH ; REALY WEIGHT AND dimensional weight; because some items like tropical bouquets weight the same or slightly greather than the volumetric weight ; so in this case; it would consider both dims and weight; taking the greater item, but other items that are more voluminous than by weight; it would take the Dims/ volumetric weight. i believe it would take both factors in order to do this effectively.

Alex-
I can help answer this from our side. FedEx will use either the dimensional or volume of the case, which ever one is higher. Obviously, since everything in Komet ships via Cube Rate (dimensional), we chose to calculate FedEx this way and then manually true up the costs at the end of the month when Billing comes through.
We know that a case of product with have a Cube rate of 2.62 ((24x13.3x10)/1728). This can be used in conjunction with our negotiated FedEx rate.
I see a couple of options:
1) integrate with FedEx's API to calculate freight dynamically
2) Approximate FedEx's freight with the Cube Rate -
Thanks Tawny. How do you charge the FedEx rate to your customers? Is it a flat fee or is it a value per box? Does it vary by box type?
